this print is an AP 2/4. And the very last one we have of this edition
A tradition in graphic printing is that each edition includes a smaller quantity of additional prints. These prints are marked as either AP (Artist Proof), EA (épreuve d’artiste), or BAT (bon à tirer). Originally, these “artist proof” prints were reserved for the artist or printer, but today, they are often sold alongside the regular prints.
For example, if a lithograph or etching is numbered 6/20, it means that this specific print is number 6 out of a total edition of twenty. However, the numbering does not indicate the order in which the prints were made. Therefore, number 1/20 is not necessarily the first or the best print; it could simply be the one on top when the artist signed the prints in the edition.
